This simple variation of bulletproof coffee is the perfect way to start your day on the right foot.
In full transparency, I am a home coffee drinker through and through. I have a very specific morning routine that revolves around my coffee that is brewed in sync with my alarm clock so that my pot of hot coffee is waiting for me by the time I finally roll out of bed.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a mocha choca latta-ya-ya as much as the next girl. I just can’t bring myself to spend five bucks on the daily for a cup full of sugar. Every once and awhile, I will treat myself to a cup full of delicious sugar syrup, but I’m far too cheap to do that on the reg. So when my coffee consumption became a daily occurrence back in college, I bought my handy little coffee pot that still brews my caffeine fix to this day. That thing has paid for itself 100 times over.
From my diet coffee mate and Splenda days in college (yikes) to my almond milk and stevia-loving “clean eating” days, to now – that coffee pot has seen quite the evolution in how I take my coffee.
These days, I like having my Bulletproof-ish coffee as my pre-workout of choice. I’m a fan of morning workouts, but don’t like eating a ton before working out because I start feeling sick if I have too much in my stomach. The coffee, bit of healthy fats, and touch of collagen give me just enough sustenance before my morning sweat sessions without weighing me down. I prefer to go a little lighter on the fats than traditional Bulletproof recipes call for because I don’t want the drink to serve as a breakfast replacement. Mainly because I love me some breakfast, and just like having a little something in my stomach before I get moving and grooving. It may not work for everyone, but it’s been working really well for me for the past several months.
Before we jump to the recipe (although I consider this much more of a method than a recipe), can we talk about how beautiful this mug is? The kind ladies from Lafayette Avenue Ceramics sent it to me, and I have been loving it for my morning coffee. I love that it’s handle-less so I feel much cozier wrapping my always-freezing hands all the way around the mug as I’m waking up for the day. Alright, let’s get to it.
- 1 Cup of Brewed Coffee (Cold Brew would also work well)
- 1 Teaspoon MCT Oil or Coconut Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Grass-Fed Butter or Ghee
- 1 Serving of Collagen (I like Vital Proteins)
- Sweetener of Choice
- Adaptogens of Choice (I occasionally will add Maca Root or Reishi if I have time + have them on hand)
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until frothy and smooth.
- Pour into a mug or tumbler and enjoy!
