Taking care of my skin has always been really important to me. In my teenage years I noticed a big difference in my skin when I took the time to truly care for it versus when I didn’t, so I started to keep a routine early and have stuck with it ever since. However, the type of products I used evolved over time.
I really started taking my overall health seriously in 2011, right before I was about to graduate college. I started exercising regularly and began learning more about nutrition so I could make informed choices about what I was putting in my body. Not too long after that, I realized what I put on my body impacted my health as well.
For the last 6+ years, I have been on a slow, steady journey to transition my beauty and personal care products from conventional to more natural alternatives. It has truly been a journey of trial and error. Ok, mostly error. Also, major apologies to anyone who hung out with, worked with, or had to be near me when I was figuring out the whole “natural deodorant” thing. That was a tough one.
Back to the skincare.
When it comes to taking care of my skin, I prefer to take a “less is more” approach. I’m not one to recommend a ton of expensive treatments, get regular fancy facials, or do anything too drastic. I have more of a “take my makeup off, eat well, and drink lots of water” approach to skincare, but just know I feel that way because I’ve found that works for me. So if my skincare routine seems minimal, just know it’s by design 🙂

If you couldn’t tell from the video, I’m a big fan of Beautycounter products. I love the company’s integrity and work to make body care products safer for all of us. Even more than that, I love how effective the products are, and how high-quality everything is. Natural beauty products have a reputation for being less effective than their conventional counterparts because for years they truly were. Being able to find products that are just as effective (if not better) than conventional has been a welcome change, and is what really made me want to be a Beautycounter consultant. Alright, moving on to my favorite products. Ever since I started posting about Beautycounter on Instagram, I’ve gotten a ton of questions about what my favorite products are so I wanted to share them with you.
If there is one product I would recommend as a must-have, it’s this one. It is really that great. I use this bar at night to clean off my face after removing my makeup with oil, and it leaves my skin feeling amazing every single night. After using it my skin feels super soft and clean, but not dry or overly-stripped. On the rare occasion I do get a breakout, this helps clear things right up.
If the cleansing bar is my first love, this mask is a close second. If you’ve been reading the blog for awhile, you know I have made my own masks before which were great, but this is so much better. Charcoal is amazing for detoxifying the skin and drawing out impurities, and every time I use this mask I notice my blackheads disappear (which is saying a lot, because I get really bad blackheads). My skin feels soft, and my complexion gets way brighter. I usually use it once a week and love how it makes my skin feel.
I use this moisturizer morning and night, and my skin loves it. I have combination skin that is oily at times, and dry at other times. This does an awesome job of balancing out my skin and leaving it well-moisturized morning and night.
I won’t preach to you about how important sunscreen is because I’m sure at this point you already know. No matter your complexion or where you live, everyone needs sun protection. I like using this as a daily moisturizer on my face, neck, and chest because this girl is doing her darn best to age gracefully. It’s moisturizing without being overly greasy, doesn’t make me break out and is a great base for makeup. I’ve also used it for the rest of my body and really liked the coverage.
This next favorite isn’t skin care, but it is a key part of my beauty routine so I had to share!
My hair is a lot to deal with. Like, a LOT to deal with. It’s thick, curly, and a bit unruly. I’m also super particular about the products I use in my hair and I have to say – this line is the real deal. After using the shampoo and conditioner, my curls actually stay intact and are much smoother (a Christmas miracle). Because I use a lot of heat on my hair, my ends take quite a beating. After using the serum, my ends are a lot smoother and more moisturized. This is all I use on my hair anymore.
And there you have it! That’s my beauty routine in a nutshell. I would love to hear more about yours. What does your skincare regimen look like? What are your favorite products?
